Art II Final Exam
Which project was your most successful? Describe the theme and or topic and the process you went through to complete the project. Were the choices you made regarding material, size, technique, etc beneficial to enhancing this project. Please explain.
My project that was most successful, was my Georgia O'Keeffe inspired piece. This piece was most successful, because the color harmony worked well ( the bright blues and purple contrasted with the orange and yellow), and i didnt over- blend the chalk. Before this year, I never really worked with chalk thoroughly. And even as you can tell from my practice with chalk before this project, i wasn't very good at it. But, after a few class periods of practice with chalk and sketching, i was finally ready to begin. The size was big, which was good because it is better to work bigger with chalk. the chalk was a good medium, because it was smooth and clean looking, and i could get lots of values and shape with it. I believe because i practiced so hard and because Rossi pushed me so hard to do my best, i was able to create such a successful piece. There's not a lot i would change about this project or experience.

look at your body of work over the semester and choose 2 pieces that show your growth as an artist. Discuss each piece and how you grew in the following areas: application of materials, techniques and skills, artistic vision, use of the principles and elements, creativity, intuition and subject matter.
Pen and ink Perspective "Downtown": This piece helped me grow as an artist, because I've never done a two- point perspective picture, and I wanted to challenge myself. It was also a challenge, because once I used pen, i couldn't go back. I used all varieties of techniques, including stippling, hatching, cross- hatching, and invented. It took a lot of time and patience, which is a big part of growth as and artist. The subject of the downtown area of my hometown is a very important aspect of myself as an artist. Apex has brought me so many memories, and this street corner is representative of that.

Artist Inspired Painting "Breezy": "Breezy" aided me in thinking outside of the box. I struggled, I restarted, and I blanked, and eventually it helped me create something beautiful. The materials really represented the style of the artist i chose, since he did a lot of work with collages. This subject is important to me, because Bree is one of my best friends. She always encourages me to be different and think creatively, which was one of the main focuses of this project for me.
Choose 2 mini lessons that you felt were the most beneficial in your learning for that particular project. Include photos of these and explain thoroughly. Do you feel you needed more instruction for success? Explain or did you feel that the instruction given was enough to ensure success? Explain. (if you do not have a photo for this just answer the question without one)
Yellow Cow: Although difficult, this project helped me get familiar with using acrylic. It challenged me to find the right colors and values through mixing paint, and layering. I feel that this project helped me grow and insure my success, because of Ms. Rossi talking one on one about what were doing right, and how to get the right technique. It was good that we did this lesson right before painting on the canvas.
Apples: The apples were an absolute pain in the butt for me to do, but absolutely necessary. Every good artist needs to be familiar with a wide range of media, even if they aren't good at it or don't like it. We did practice enough to ensure success on highlight, line, shape, texture, color, etc.

Look over the blogs of other students in our class. Choose a piece of artwork from one of your classmates that you feel is an exemplary showcase of what the project was to depict. Think about how the artist used the medium, utilized the elements of art and design principles, was original with their ideas and went beyond their comfort zone or the realm of the requirements. Make sure you have the image of their artwork along with their name (first name only) posted with this response
Nori
Nori
- Nori is an overall amazing artist and i don't know how i could possibly choose one of my favorite pieces by her.
- Her perspective drawing in pen and ink stood out to me, because it went above and beyond the buildings that most people did.
- The portrait was spot on. Not only was it proportional, but it had tons of detail and lines that really defined the shape of his hands, face, hair, etc.
- I love this piece because its so outside the box. I honestly have no idea why she chose to do Bruce Lee, but I dig it.
- The pen and ink techniques were utilized in every aspect of this piece. From the lines and shape of his hands, to his face, and then to the Dojo background, there's literally nothing I could think of to make this piece better.
